"Bad B*tches is the only thing that I like."

African American youth can be easily persuaded by rap music because it is often used as a representation of the African American culture in American society, eventually giving them a fabricated reality. African American youth are socialized at an early age to model certain behavior they deem as a positive reinforcement. Unfortunately, they are being affected negatively because mainstream media is dominated by those who endorse misogyny and standards of beauty that are not obtainable without taking drastic measures.  This affects girls of color because they are being portrayed in media as “hoes and tricks” or as referred to in the #3 song “Bad b*tch.”  Through such lyrics, they may feel obligated to fit a standard that the industry measures as beautiful

As said by Patricia Hill Collins, in order to begin tearing down the allegation that society has used to portray us, we must become knowledgable about our identity. Instead of taking an individual advantage of complying with society's persception of black women (i.e. Nicki Minaj), it is imperative that we educate ourselves and our successors, to begin making the social change that so many women of color have fought for.
